I played a round with three strangers today at Bellevue muni today. On hole 9, John’s tee shot went left into the trees behind the tee box of the 3rd hole. Since he was unable to find the ball, he dropped and hit a ball by the tree. The three guys went into almost a physical fight debating if this would be a one-stroke or two-stoke penalty.

If your answer is one stoke penalty, you have made the same mistake as John and me. A lost ball from tee shot is similarto OB, there is both distance and stoke penalty. If you hit from where you believe it was lost, it would be a two stoke penalty since you are supposed to go back to the tee box to hit the second ball. In this case, you should hit a provisional ball to save time.

While researching this, I found an interesting story, follow this link, if want to learn more:

    Happy Father’s day.

    2011 June 5th Tournament Champions

Our June/5 Club Scramble tournament finished successfully! Congratulations on all players and the prize winners!

Summer of 2011, comes a little later than usual. It arrives just before club 808 starts the first tournament of this year. June 5th, is destined to be a great day. It got the time and whether. As the dragon Boat Festival, it means for competition. It got the place, and it got the people. Amazingly, all our 40 registered players showed up on time, not even a need to change the pairing on site.

Competition is harsh, we have got prestige guests: Rui Li as the student of UPenn, is the university golf team member. Her handicap is 0. Leon Xu has been the judge of the 10 Best Chinese golf course and his handicap is 3 under. Jolie shen has been the main contributor of the school team that won the WA State Champianship. Our club members are also rolled up their sleeves. Kerry just proudly shot 75 in Redmond Ridge which demonstrate both length and accuracy. Eric has kept on shooting in the low 80s and shot an “hole in one” recently. Looking at the putting green, everybody is trying to get a feel. Like what David Liu said: all those are looking for taking something home!

With all the carefully management and the good preparations of all members, the game started almost half hours before schedule. And the game went on so smoothly and finished before 6:00 PM.

It’s time for the dinner and trophy! The food is good this time, both the number of courses and the quality are good. The big fat albow soon turns into bones. After the dinner, As the new club president, Steve has anounced this year’s schedule: there would be tournament coming up in July and August. In September Labor day long weekend, there would be a golf outing in the east side of WA. Roger showed us how to use our new website to create events and organize golf games. Of course special thanks to Yongtao You, who usually work during 12:00PM for our website. And Kerry Hu, who kept our HDCP which is so important for the prize winning…

Then comes the time for prizes. The score of all teams are very close. It takes 7 birdies and 1 eagle to win the trophy!

Here is June 5th prize winners:

Net #1: Leon Xu, Roger Guo, Dylan Xu, Liren Wang
Net #2: Michael Wu, Kelvin Wu, James Chen, David Liu
Net #3: Kerry Hu, Jinsong Ye, Amy Min, Kailing Gu
Net #4: Eric zhao, Shieh Hugh, Weiling Li, Shuo Chen

    Long drive: Leon Xu
Close to pin: Shieh Hugh, Leon Xu, Amy Min

We are looking forward to the July Competition!

Special thanks to Laura Counsell, Branch Office Manager, World Group Securities
Special thanks to Michael Wu, Director of Sales, Boeing for contributing the golf balls and tees.
Special thanks to Lan Wang and Jessie Jiang for helping presentation at dinner.

Picture from Saturday (5/14) at White Horse:

Club 808 Members at 5/14/2011 White Horse

    Dear members,

Last Saturday, 14 of 808 members joined the tournament of Formosa Golf Club (FGC) held at White Horse golf course in Kingston, WA. Although we need to take the ferry to get there, it proved at the end that whole experience was worth of the trip. The course is very beautiful and challenging. It was the first time for all of us so it posed some difficulty. There were 29 FGC members participated this tournament. With all these factors, our invincible members took home almost half of the prizes. Here they are:

    Gross 2nd, Benduan Yang (89)
    Gross 3rd, Eric Zhao (89)
Net 1st: Robert Shao (95, Peoria system)
    Longest Drive: Yongtao
    Close to Pin: Yongtao

We do want to mention that Rachel Zhang shot 89 as well, but didn’t walk away with any prizes due to the way the tie-breaker works. Sorry Rachel, but congratulations and you are one of only 4 players who broke 90 on such demanding course.

We received warm welcome from FGC and had great time. We have learned a lot from FGC on how they organize the event. You are going to see changes in our tournament. Also at this event, we have encountered the most senior player at age of 81. The total age of Robert’s group is over 260 years old. This is really a great demonstration on how golfing can help us keep healthy and can be a game of lifetime. We are looking forward to see you more often in our weekend games. Practice makes perfect!
